Convertible soft top cleaning and waterproofing kit for canvas roofs

A soft top care kit for cleaning and protecting canvas roofs, with cleaner, waterproofer and brushes included in a 500ml pack of 2.

This PROTEX kit is set up for the two main jobs involved in looking after a canvas convertible roof: cleaning it first, then sealing and protecting it afterwards. The pack includes canvas cleaner and canvas waterproofer in 500ml bottles, plus two applicator brushes and one soft top cleaning brush to help with the work.

What the kit is for

The canvas cleaner is described as a deep-cleaning product for everyday contamination on soft tops, including bird droppings, road salt, tree sap, mildew and mould. It is also positioned as the first stage in the Protex soft top restoration process.

The canvas waterproofer is the follow-up step. It is a polymer-based sealant designed to protect the canvas soft top against moisture and other environmental damage after cleaning.

Practical points to bear in mind

The cleaner should be tested on an inconspicuous area first to check the fabric is colourfast.
It should not be applied in direct sunlight, as drying too quickly can stop it working properly.
The waterproofer is best applied in cool or overcast conditions to help avoid an uneven finish.
Do not expose the canvas to moisture until the proofer has fully dried.
After waterproofing, the listing recommends reapplying protection about every six months.

Who this suits

This kind of kit makes sense if you are maintaining a canvas convertible roof and want the cleaner and protector in one place rather than buying them separately. The included brushes also make it easier to apply the products by hand.

The listing recommends around 500ml for cleaning a 2 seater car top and around 500ml for waterproofing a 2 seater car top, so the pack size is worth checking against the size of the roof you plan to treat.
